Handwheels and crank handles are essential control elements in many industries. They are usually mounted on a shaft or spindle. Because the diameter of the handwheel or the circle of the crank handle is much larger than the diameter of the shaft or spindle, less force is required to turn and additional tools are no longer necessary.

Er wordt hierbij echter geen toegevoegd beschermgas gebruikt, omdat dat wordt gevormd uit de bekleding van de elektrode. Toepasbaarheid De benodigde apparatuur bij BMBE lassen omvat minder volume dan bij MIG&MAG en TIG lassen omdat dat er geen grote gasflessen benodigd zijn voor de werkzaamheden. Het zijn eigenlijk twee soorten, maar omdat het enige verschil het gebruikte gas is wordt het toch als eenzelfde soort gezien. MIG/MAG-lassen wordt ook gerekend tot het elektrisch booglassen. Deze techniek werkt met een afsmeltende elektrode. Bij MIG/MAG wordt een constante spanning gebruikt, in tegenstelling tot TIG-lassen en lassen met beklede elektrode, waar een constante stroom wordt gebruikt. Toepasbaarheid MIG/MAG lassen is tegenwoordig het meest gebruikte lasproces vanwege zijn zorgvuldigheid en snelheid.
