High-Tech Sections
Exploring aluminium’s potential through ongoing collaboration with research institutes and high-tech companies.
In exploring all possibilities that aluminium has to offer, Bayards has maintained an ongoing collaboration with various research institutes and high-tech companies. Bayards’ extensive knowledge of the behavior of aluminium as well as on production technology has become a valuable asset within the high-tech industry. Our state-of-the-art machine park offers us the flexibility for a successful implementation of the most creative and innovative ideas.
CERN Project, Switzerland
Aluminium becomes stronger at low temperatures. Bayards has used this property during the design and production of the bottom tray for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world’s largest and most powerful particle collider, built by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). Measuring a staggering 27 kilometres in length,
the particle accelerator works at absolute zero (-273° Celsius). While other materials become brittle at such low temperatures, aluminium only gets stronger. Applying unique production techniques with precision equipment and ‘orbital’ welding (360 degrees around a pipe) was necessary to meet the highest quality requirements.
